What you told us about Be Real Magazine

I am interested in writing for Be Real Magazine but the website hasn't been updated for some time. What is the theme of the upcoming issue, and are articles assigned before writing or reviewed upon submission?   Thanks!  Chantel

Editor's Response:
Hi Chantel.  We were a little slow on this last issue, but ordinarily Be Real comes out once a quarter.  You can find themes for upcoming issues on the "Future Issues" link on the right hand side. we read every submission we receive and generally accept 25-50% of all submissions for publication.  Definitely write something and send it in!

It's fabulous!  - Hope

Editor's Response: Thanks Hope!

This message is for Blue Douglas.  A friend emailed me a link to your article, "The Power of Letting Go."  I'd emailed her about my latest crisis in a seemingly endless chain of them since the beginning of this year. I ended the email with "What have I done wrong to deserve all of this?"  She replied with the link.  I just wanted to say thank you. I normally see myself like the nun in the story, but circumstances have left me doubting my strength, my perseverance, my ability to cope, my parenting skills, you name it, I'm no longer certain of it. The only thing I know for certain is that I'm still alive!  Your article reminded me that when faced with something that seems insurmountable, I have to just jump and do what needs to be done and sort everything else out later.  I'm a writer too, and I know how good it makes me feel when I get mail telling me that I've helped someone. You truly did make my day!  Thanks!  Amy

Editor's Response:
Dear Amy,  It's letters like yours that make writers glad we're writers!  Blue has already read this and replied "Thanks for forwarding the message to me. It's always nice to know that what we say may have a positive effect on someone else."  Thanks for reading!

I created a game called Go Goddess! Someone told us that you wrote about the game.  We'd love to see the article.  In the meantime we love your website and the synergy between us.  Thanks, Kelley www.gogoddess.com

Editor's Response:
Yes!  One of our frequent contributors, Stefanie Renee, wrote a review of the game.  You can find it in Issue Four: Goddess under "Books That Changed My Life."

Hi - your website was recommended to me by a friend in my writer's group and I really enjoyed it! Since the group we both belong to is sponsored by a really unique Web site, www.ArtellaWordsAndArt.com, I thought you might like to know about it as a resource for other readers of your web site.  Artella publishes a magazine for writers and artists and also offers lots of great services to support creative people, and TONS of freebies.   Marney Makridakis, the editor, publishes a weekly e-newsletter and always includes link recommendations and later adds them to her Web site, and I think she'd be interested in hearing about your site, as well, so you may want to contact her.  Thanks for making the web a better place for a creative person to be!

Editor's Response:
You're welcome - and ArtellaWordsAndArt.com is definitely a great creative resource for our contributors and readers.  What a glorious explosion of creativity captured in a website!  Thanks for passing the link!

Entertaining magazine with potential. Love the stories. Keep up the good work. Thanks. - Joy

Editor's Response:
Thank you for your kind words and encouragement.  Yes, Be Real Magazine does have lots of potential.   Here are some new features that are "in the works":  A message board to create a dynamic creative community with our readers, our new Calendar of Events, and lots more fun and surprises.

Not bad... really real...You may wish to share this internally, externally, etc. or nada...
It's OK (not totalitarian communistic) for auto owners or other air breathers to write auto manufacturers and express a preference for cleaner-air vehicles...Demand, and encourage others to demand that auto makers help us SPARE OUR AIR. - Rand

Editor's Response:
Well, I am not sure what Be Real has to do with reduced-emissions vehicles, but thanks for sharing.  Unfortunately, space limitations prevented us from publishing all five pages of your comments.

Kate Swoboda's article, Hair Dye Hell was a lifesaver for me!  I had my hair colored this week, not pink, but "blonde," for a lot of the same reasons she did hers, and feel exactly how she did.  Her article picked me off my feet and made me laugh until I cried, which I sorely needed.  THANK YOU.  - Julia

Editor's Response:
Seems to be an epidemic of hair coloring issues lately - this story really struck a nerve with our readers!  Isn't it wonderful that by being "real" we can all laugh about our mishaps as humans?  Hope you have a good hair day today!

It rocks.  - Judy

Editor's Comments:
Thanks!  We're glad you like it!

Such a wonderful mag this month. Thank you. The Letter to My Younger Self made me think about the years passed (the last 20 in fact ...) and I realized I am so grateful for the lessons and people that God and the Universe have sent to me. Without all this, I would not be feeling the peace I have at the moment. It all helps me to look forward to the adventure. Thanks for coming into it.  - Vicky

Editor's Comments:
Thanks Vicky!  Glad you enjoyed it.

I think it's great!!!!!!!!!!!!  - Kristen

Editor's Comments:
Thanks Kristen!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think it's really awesome.  I love Moody Girl and looking at the photography.  I was actually just wondering if you could have the photographers write a little about their photographs (how they found the subject matter, why they took the picture, what the picture means to them, etc.). I think it'd be interesting to read the stories behind the pictures. Keep up the awesome work!  Thanks, Abbie

Editor's Comments:
Dear Abbie, that's a great idea about the photographers.  We'll consider it for the upcoming issue.
