San
Francisco Art Auction Set to Raise $10,000 for Three
Local Middle School Art Programs
Local
San Francisco Artists Donate Art for Auction on October
3rd at Dolores Park Café in the Mission
Dolores Area
SAN
FRANCISCO, CA,
September 16, 2003, "Artists in the Making"
Silent Art Auction fundraiser will be held on Friday,
October 3, 2003 from 7:30-9:30 PM at the Dolores Park
Café located at 501 Dolores Street (Dolores at 18th) in
San Francisco. The
Internet publication, Be Real Magazine (www.berealmag.com),
is organizing and hosting the "Artists in the
Making" event being held in conjunction with Arts
Day 2003.
The event is expected to
raise $10,000 for art teachers at the Aptos, Everett,
and James Lick Middle Schools to purchase art supplies.
Facing restricted budgets and no funding for art
supplies, these teachers require assistance from the San
Francisco community to continue to offer art programs to
middle school children. Twenty-two local artists have
donated original artwork, photography, and prints to
help these schools at their time of need.
"Watching art classroom doors close because teachers don't have
basic art supplies is just heartbreaking," said
Julie Russell, the event organizer and co-founder of Be
Real Magazine. "I'm here to create a win-win
situation. Local artists are introduced to new potential
buyers, who in turn make a difference with their art
purchases, and middle school kids have the art supplies
they need to express their creativity. Who knows, one of
these kids could be the next Marc Chagall!"
Contributing artists include Ally Moll, Amy Yvonne Yu, Angela Baker,
Anita Brey, Brian McDonald, Diane Feissel, Èlena
Nazzaro, Karen Chew, Kristin Marr,
